Railway Recruitment Board Invites Applications For Common Preliminary Examinations For Non-Technical Popular Category (Graduate), ASM And Traffic Assistants

Indian Railways does need an introduction particularly as an employer. Being the single largest employer in the world, Indian Railway jobs are quite popular among the mass in India being a central government job position.

In continuation to strengthen the workforce with competent selection of qualified individuals for its diverse levels of operation, Indian Railways invites application for the Common Preliminary Examination (CPE) for its Non-technical popular category posts as well as Assistant Station Masters and Traffic Assistants. An estimated requirement of 6829 vacancies are announced for the posts of Commercial Apprentice (317), Traffic Apprentice (740), ECRC (114), Goods Guard (1768), Jr. Accounts Assistant-cum-Typist (791), Sr. Clerk-cum-Typist (441), Assistant Station Masters (2646), and Traffic Assistants (12).

All candidates have to undergo the two stages of selection examinations (preliminary & main) and have to follow verification process in order to get a placement in appropriate job category. For certain posts like ASM and Traffic Assistant the applicants have to undergo aptitude tests prior to their document verification process.

1. Application Form:

• All candidates are requested to apply only through the prescribed Application forms for all the required categories of jobs through their concerned Railway Recruitment Boards (RRBs).

• The Application Form should be filled up in own handwriting by the candidate and with his/her self signature on the form.

• The application need to be made on a good quality A4-size paper or 80-GSM bond paper and used only on one-side.

• All Application Forms along with required enclosures should be sent by Ordinary Posts Normally to the concerned RRBs and should reach RRBs on or before 11-06-2012 by 17:30 Hours.

• For certain specific areas like Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Jammu & Kashmir, Lakshwadeep islands, Lahaul & Spiti districts and Pangi sub-division of Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland, Tripura, Sikkim, and from abroad the applications should be received latest by 26-06-2012 latest by 17:30 Hours.

• The candidates should apply for Common Preliminary Examination and whoever succeeds in the CPE will have to apply separately for the Main examination as noticed by the RRBs.

• Online submission of application form is acceptable as per the specific procedures described in the website of concerned RRBs.

• Participating candidates is provided an option to choose any one regional language for appearing in the entrance examination.

2. Important dates:

• Date of notification: 12-05-2012

• Final date for submission of completed application forms: 11-06-2012 up to 17:30 hours

• Special date for submission of application forms for distance domiciles: 26-06-2012 up to 17:30 hours

• Date of Common Preliminary Examination: 28-10-2012

3. Educational Qualification:

# Category 1: Commercial Apprentice – Degree from recognized University or its equivalent.
Diploma in Rail Transport and Management from the Institute of Rail Transport will be an added advantage.

# Category 2: Traffic Apprentice – Degree from recognized University or its equivalent.
Diploma in Rail Transport and Management from the Institute of Rail Transport will be an added advantage.

# Category 3: ECRC – Degree from recognized University or its equivalent.

# Category 4: Goods Guard – Degree from recognized University or its equivalent.

# Category 5: Jr. Accounts Assistant-cum-Typist – Degree from recognized University or its equivalent.
Preference will be given to persons with I & II Divisions, Honours & Master Degree. Typing proficiency in English/Hindi on Computer/Typewriter is mandatory.

# Category 6: Sr. Clerk-cum-Typist – Degree from recognized University or its equivalent.
Typing proficiency in English/Hindi on Computer/Typewriter is mandatory.

# Category 7: Assistant Station Master – Degree from recognized University or equivalent.
Diploma in Rail Transport & Management, Transport Economics, Multimodal Transport (Containerization) awarded by Institute of Rail Transport, New Delhi will be an added advantage.

# Category 8: Traffic Assistant – Degree from recognized University or equivalent.
Diploma in Rail Transport & Management, Transport Economics, Multimodal Transport (Containerization) awarded by Institute of Rail Transport, New Delhi will be an added advantage.

4. Age Limit:

The upper and the lower age limit to be reckoned at minimum 18 and maximum 33 years as on 01-07-2012 for all categories of posts.
However there is applicable upper age relaxation will be applicable for different marginalized community as per the norms described by the Government of India.
The relaxation will be as below:

SC/ ST – by 5 years

OBC – by 3 years

Ex-Servicemen – up to the extent of service rendered in defense plus 3 years provided they have put in more than 6 months service after attestation.

Domicile of J&K in between 1980-89 – by 5 years

Physically challenged – 10 years on a cumulative basis (e.g. for SC/ST 10+5=15 years)

For Group C and D Railway staff – Age must be up to 40 years for UR, 43 for OBC and 45 for SC/ST

Widows/ Divorcees/ Legally separated but not remarried – Age must be up to 35 years for UR, 38 for OBC and 40 for SC/ST

No age relaxation for SC/ST/OBC applying under the UR category

Date of Birth for all categories as per the above criteria:

Upper Date of Birth: UR – 02-07-1979 OBC – 02-07-1976 SC/ST – 02-07-1974
Lower Date of Birth: 01-07-1994 for all categories

5. Examination Fee:

i) NO examination fee for SC/ST/OBC/Women/ ExSM/ Physically Challenged/ Economically weaker section whose family income do not exceed Rs.50000 per annum

ii) For Un-Reserved / OBC Male candidates – Rs.60 for each application. Candidates can send separate applications for more than one RRBs. (Important: The CPE will be held on the same date at every RRB)

iii) The examination fee is non-refundable

iv) The fees can be paid via Demand Draft/ Crossed Indian Postal Orders in favor of ‘Assistant Secretary or Secretary or Member Secretary or Chairman, Railway Recruitment Board’ of concerned RRB

v) The candidates should write the Centralized Employment Notice No., Category Number of the post/s, Name of the post/s applied for, and their name and postal address on the reverse side of the Bank Draft/Front side at the space provided in the Indian Postal Order.

vi) Payment of examination fee in any other form except Bank Draft/Indian Postal Order will not be accepted except in case of Online Applications wherever examination fee can be remitted through Bank Challan/ Credit Card/Debit Card as provided for.

vii) The particulars of Bank Draft/Indian Postal Order submitted as examination fee should also be essentially reflected at the prescribed place in the Application Form.

6. How to Apply:

i) A candidate can apply with prescribed application form printed on a good quality minimum 80-GSM A4 size bond paper printed on a single side.

ii) The Application Form should be filled in the own handwriting of the candidate and mandatorily with the signature and left hand thumb impression at the place provided in the application form.

iii) The application form should be filled in with a black/blue ball point plain with clear and legible handwriting.

iv) The candidate should fill up his Name, Address with Pin Code, Date of Birth, Father’s Name, Mother’s Name and nearest Railway Station written legibly in English in bold capital letters, even if the candidate fills up the Application Form in Hindi.

v) One Color Photograph of size 3.5 cmX 3.5 cm with clear front view should be pasted on the application form in the place provided

vi) The declaration statement should be filled by the candidate in his own running handwriting and should not be bold or spaced

vii) Applications which are illegible, incomplete, unsigned, signed in capital letters, not in prescribed format, without color photo of candidate, not having IPO/DD or having IPO/DD purchased before date of issue of and after closing date of Centralized Employment Notice are summarily rejected.

viii) The envelope containing the application should be clearly super-scribed “Application for the Preliminary Examination for the notified categories of CEN No 03/2012 of RRB—– & Community (SC/ST/OBC/PWD/Ex-SM)” failing which the application will not be entertained.

7. Enclosures to be attached with the application form during the time of submission:

A. For Common Preliminary Examination:

i) Application Form in prescribed format

ii) Information Sheet in prescribed format

iii) A valid bank draft / IPO with requisite fees

iv) One extra copy of recent color photograph identical to the one pasted on the application form to be stitched to the application

v) Self attested photocopy of Caste/ Disability certificate from competent authorities

vi) Relieving service certificate for Ex-Servicemen applicants

vii) Income Certificate from competent authorities in case the candidate seeks waiving of examination fees

viii) Minority Self Declaration Certificate for candidates seeking liberty under minority category

B. For Main Examination:

i) Application Form in prescribed format

ii) One extra copy of recent color photograph identical to the one pasted on the application form to be stitched to the application

iii) Self Attested Photocopy of Matriculation/High school examination certificate indicating date of birth

iv) Self Attested Photocopy of Educational and/or Professional Qualification prescribed for the post being applied

v) For Ex-Servicemen, SC/ST, Minorities, OBC self attested photocopy of the eligibility certificate from competent authorities

vi) Any certificate that is deemed fit for claiming any sort of relaxation for the above said posts

8. Recruitment Process:

i) The recruitment will be conducted for all eligible candidates through a common written examination in essentially in English/ Hindi. Candidates who have opted for any other regional language as their medium of examination will be offered question papers in the regional language during the written examination

ii) The selection of recruitment written examination will be strictly based on the performance merit.

iii) Whoever gets selected from the CPE on the basis of merit will be eligible for the Main Examination and the other requisite skill test and aptitude tests. The candidates will be informed for such selections through advertisements and personal call letters

iv) The final merit list will be prepared on the basis of performance in the written test, aptitude test and skill tests

v) There will be negative marking for the written examination and 1/3rd marks will be deducted for each wrong answer

vi) The candidates recommended for appointment will be subjected to medical fitness test conducted as per the specified standard norms from the Railways Administration for each specific category.

9. Online submission of Application Forms: Any candidate desiring to fill up online application form can do so with their concerned Railway Recruitment Board website [//rrcb.gov.in/rrbs.html] with adopting proper paraphernalia as described on the website of the RRBs.

10. Impersonation/ Suppression of facts:
Any form of impersonation or suppression of facts by submitting forged certificates will be treated seriously and the candidate will be debarred from all examinations of all RRBs for the lifetime.
