Department Of Pre-University Education Karnataka: A boon For Lakhs Of Students Of The State
The eminent department has been set up by the Government of Karnataka to improve the overall literacy rate and provide higher education quality in the state. The department of Pre-University Education functions under Department of Primary and Secondary Education, which in turn is headed by the Karnataka State Government. The board, as of today has about 1202 government pre-university colleges, 637 aided pre-university colleges, 1936 unaided pre-university colleges, 165 bifurcated pre-university colleges, and 13 corporation pre-university colleges.
Approximate number of students being benefited every year
Every year, about 10 lakhs students after completing their 10th standard get themselves enrolled in the 2 year pre-university courses. The courses under the department are classified in the categories of Science, Humanities (Arts) and Commerce. The curriculum of Pre-university offers 23 subjects, 11 languages and a total of 50 combinations. As per the records of 2010-11, the total number of students under Humanities were 4, 43,185 in I and II PUC. Science had 2, 47,421 students, and commerce had 2, 77,189 students in I and II PUC.

Curriculum at PUC
The department makes arrangements for proper maintenance and creation of curriculum for 1st as well as 2nd year classes. The curriculum revision takes place periodically once in every 8 to 10 years, and it is followed by a second phase of revision at the secondary stage. The syllabus was revised last time in the year 2004.
Special Curriculum Features of PUC Board
The PUC has revised its syllabus to lay a strong focus on development in every field. Special workbooks have been prepared in every field which are now available in several languages to help the native students. The board has tried its best to maintain a consistency in the examination question paper pattern. Introduction of basic mathematics in every course allows even the arts students to understand the root concept of this subject.
Special Orientation Programs
The Academic part of the department is responsible for conducting periodic orientation programs to help the principal as well as lecturers to learn the latest strategies in the market, improving their overall knowledge over the subject. The workshops organized under the department even focus on improving the teaching methodologies adopted by teachers. The department also organizes several teleconferencing programs in Bangalore through DSERT.

The board maintains a proper website and even has pages on social networks like Facebook and Twitter to help the students gain knowledge regarding the latest campus news and events. The site also features student results corner, and provides a hub for publishing of subject syllabi, date sheet, press releases, tenders and other critical documents. The tentative dates or examination and other stuff are always declared in advance for the ease of the students.
