Haryana Board Of School Education- Enhancing the quality of education

With a vision of producing an effective education system that would contribute to quality, significance, equality and access of school education, Haryana board of school education was born with a mission to prescribe required syllabi and text books, carrying out examination, evaluation and declaring results fairly and timely and using the information and communication technology to help stakeholders like students get a better service regarding board’s working. It is conducting the board exams twice a year to improve the quality of education since 1970. Also in 1994 Haryana board of school education established Haryana open school for all those who cannot reach to their nearby schools for education.

When it came into existence?

Haryana board of school education was brought into existence in 1969 according to the Haryana act no. 11 of 1969. Initially it had its headquarters in Chandigarh which was shifted to Bhiwani in January 1981. Since then it has been working to enhance the quality and accessibility of education.

Where it was implemented?

It is being implemented at all Government, recognized Secondary and Senior Secondary Schools in Haryana. There are about 5,603 government, 204 government aided, 36 Aarohi schools and 20 model Sanskriti schools affiliated under Haryana board of school education enrolling about 12,45,784 students from class 6th to class 12th.

Who manages it?

Haryana board of school education is guided by The Chairman appointed by The State Government. In his assistance A Vice-Chairman is appointed by The Government Under The Act. The State Government also appoints The Principal Executive Officer of the board at A Post of Secretary to help in execution of the duties of the board. Apart from it, a staff of 41,999 people working as teachers is employed by the Haryana board of school education to impart education to the young India and has issued 33328 vacant seats to employ more teachers and principals to help aid the cause.

How it imparts education to its students?

Students of Haryana board of school education lay more emphasis on subjects like Hindi, English, Science, Social Science and Mathematics. Qualifying each subject individually is an optimistic criterion to qualify final exams. Apart from these core subjects, vocational training has also been made compulsory for the students of class 12th. Haryana board conducts two kinds of exams. First being “SSE” standing for Senior Secondary Exams given by class 10th students who have  clearly  passed their IX class examination as a regular student and possess at least 50% attendance in 1st semester and 75% attendance in 2nd semester. Second is conducted as “SSCE” standing for senior secondary certificate examination and is given by class 12th students who have clearly passed class 11th and have at least 50% attendance for 1st semester and 75% attendance in 2nd semester. The board awards a certificate of qualification to each student after the qualification of the exam.

How and when are the exams conducted?

These exams are conducted twice in a year (end of September and mid of March) to improve the quality of education at Mid-Level. A new session appears to start in the beginning of April and the results for the exams are declared in the month of June.

Sarva Shiksha Abhiyaan

Haryana board of school education incorporates Sarva Shiskha Abhiyaan and imparts free and compulsory education to the children of the age-group 6-14 years. With its goals of universal reach and retention of education, bridging of gaps in society and gender and enhancement of learning in children keeps it at an edge from other boards and it has been highly appreciated by State Government of Haryana. Education to girls has been made free till class 12th in all the government and government aided schools. 102077 girls since 1991 had been benefitted under this scheme.

What are the other benefits and objectives of Haryana board of school education?

It also provides mid-day meals at all government schools as this scheme increases the enrolment, attendance and retention of children of primary schools. Required amount of all eateries including ghee, wheat, rice and other vegetables that has been provided to primary schools under this scheme by the F.C.I. Till now 99275 students have been benefitted with this scheme availed at 1152 schools. To retain girl child in school and decreasing the number of their dropouts and to recruit more children of SC, ST and other denotified or backward classes, special incentives are given to them in the form of money and textbooks.  75223 students have been benefitted under this scheme.

Providing teachers with motivation and will to enhance the quality of education is also one of the objectives of Haryana board of school education. It provides special provisions to teachers by providing them with teacher training and academic resource support, textbooks and a support in achieving learning to the students. Due recognition and awards are provided to the teachers for their dedication and outstanding efforts in teaching and their academic growth and development are also taken into thorough consideration to keep their teaching spirit ignited in them.

Achievements and future perspectives of Haryana board of school education.

  • It is because of the efforts of Haryana board of school education that the literacy rate in the state of Haryana has increased up to 76.6% from 55.85% as it was in 1991.
  • It has implemented school safety projects to alert the children and the school community to prepare for disasters and take required safety measures.
  • It has introduced teaching of English language since class 1st so that the children especially from the rural areas can be prepared to face the challenges given by the changing environment.
  • The introduction of IT education and use of computers has been introduced at the proper levels to prepare children for the difficulties thrown by the globalization of economy and information.
  • It is being planned to provide free textbooks to all students’ up to class 8th. Till now this has been made possible in few districts of Bhiwani.
