UPSC Invites Applications For Combined Defense Service Examination (II) 2018 (Including Short Service Commission (Non-Technical Services) For Women)

EXAMINATION NOTICE NUMBER: 11/2018-CDSII 

Application for the first batch of CDS examination for the year 2018 has been invited with the employment notification number Number 2/2018-CDS-II, on 04th February, 2018 for admission to below mentioned courses;

  • Indian Military Academy, Dehradun— 147th (DE) Course commencing in July, 2019 [including 13 vacancies reserved for NCC `C’ Certificate (Army Wing) holders] – 100 Posts
  • Indian Naval Academy, Ezhimala—Course commencing in July, 2019 Executive (General Service) [including 06 vacancies reserved for NCC ‘C’ Certificate holders (Naval Wing)] – 45 Posts
  • Air Force Academy, Hyderabad—(Pre-Flying) Training Course commencing in July, 2019 i.e. No. 206 F(P) Course – 32 Posts
  • Officers’ Training Academy, Chennai (Madras)— 110th SSC (Men) Course (NT) commencing in October, 2019. (including 50 vacancies for NCC ‘C’ certificate holders for NCC Spl. Entry) – 225 Posts
  • Officers Training Academy, Chennai—24th SSC Women (Non-Technical) Course commencing in October, 2019 – 12 Posts

The Online Applications (Part I and II) can be filled up to 03rd September, 2018 till 6:00 PM. Combined Defense Service (CDS) is one of the major defense service entrance examinations to various Service Wings. This examination is held twice in a year for absorption into Indian Military Academy, Naval Academy, Air Force Academy and Officers Training Academy (OTA). Only unmarried graduates are eligible to appear this examination and the selected candidates are subjected to an interview conducted by Service Selection Board (SSB). Married persons can only join Short Service Commission at OTA.

Mode of Application: Candidates are required to apply through online application only.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Educational Qualifications:

(i)   For I.M.A. and Officers’ Training Academy– A Bachelors Degree from any recognized University or equivalent.

(ii) For Indian Naval Academy – A Bachelors Degree of Engineering from any recognized University or equivalent.

(iii) For Air Force Academy: A Bachelors Degree from any recognized University (with Physics and Mathematics at 10+2 level) or Bachelor of Engineering.

Note:

  • Graduates with first choice as Army/ Navy/ Air Force are to submit proof of their provisional graduation certificates on the date of commencement of the SSB Interview at the Board
  • Candidates who are studying in the final year Degree course and have yet to pass the final year degree examination can also apply but they will be required to submit proof of passing the degree examination to reach the Army/ Navy/ Air Force HQs on or before [For admission to IMA on or before 1st July, 2019, Indian Naval Academy on or before 1st July, 2019 and Air Force Academy on or before 13th May, 2019. For admission to Officers’ Training Academy, Chennai on or before 1st October, 2019.]
  • In case of candidates who fail to qualify for Flying Training will be absorbed in the navigational and administration wings subject to availability of vacancies and the candidates fulfills requisite qualification requirements.
  • Age Limit:

Candidates Applying for Indian Military Academy must be born between 2nd July, 1995 and 1st July, 2000
Candidates Applying for Indian Naval Academy must born between 2nd July, 1995 and 1st July, 2000
Candidates Applying for Air Force Academy must born between 2nd July, 1995 and 1st July, 1999
Candidates Applying for Officers Training Academy (SSC Male) must born between 2nd July, 1994 and 1st July, 2000
Candidates Applying for Officers Training Academy (SSC Women) must born between 2nd July, 1994 and 1st July, 2000

Physical Fitness: All candidates eligible for CDS examination will have to undergo a compulsory physical fitness test as per the guidelines of the Service Commission.

Application Fee & How to: All candidates (except Female/ SC/ ST candidates who are exempted from payment of application fee) are required to pay a fee of Rs. 200/- (Rupees Two Hundred Only) either by depositing the money in any Branch of SBI by cash, or by using net banking facility of SBI and its subsidiary banks or by using Visa/ Master Credit/ Debit Cards.

Applicants who opt for “Pay by Cash” mode should print the system generated Pay in-slip during Part-II registration and deposit the fee at the counter of SBI Branch on the next working day only. “Pay by Cash” mode option will be deactivated at 11:59 PM of 02.09.2018 i.e. one day before the closing date. However, applicants who have generated their Pay-in slip before it is deactivated may pay at the counter of SBI Branch during banking hours on the closing date that is 03.09.2018.

Selection Process: Candidates will have to undergo a written test after which successful candidates will be called for interview. There will be penalty (Negative Marking) for wrong answers marked by a candidate in the Objective Type Question Papers. Final result of selected candidates and their admission procedure will be displayed on the website by the authorities.

How to Apply: APPLY NOW CDS-II-2018 Application The candidates are required to log on to the website of UPSC at www.upsconline.nic.in under the link ‘ONLINE APPLICATION’ and requested to read the detailed information available on the website prior to filling up the application form.

  • The candidates need to upload their signature and photographs duly scanned on the online application.
  • The candidates need to keep a copy of the online submitted application form for future reference.

The eligible candidates shall be issued an e-Admit Card three weeks before the commencement of the examination. The e-Admit Card will be made available on the UPSC website (www.upsc.gov.in) for downloading by candidates. No e-Admit Card will be sent by post.

On the basis of the results of the COMBINED DEFENCE SERVICES EXAMINATION (I), 2018 held by the Union Public Service Commission on 04-February-2018, 8261 candidates have qualified for being interviewed by the Service Selection Board of the Ministry of Defence, for admission to (i) Indian Military Academy, Dehradun 146th Course commencing in January, 2019 (ii) Indian Naval Academy, Ezhimala, Kerala, Course commencing in January, 2019 (iii) Air Force Academy, Hyderabad (Pre-Flying) Training Course (205 F(P)) commencing in February, 2019 (iv) Officers Training Academy, Chennai 109th SSC Course (NT)(for Men) commencing in April, 2019 and (v) Officers Training Academy, Chennai, 23rd SSC Women (Non-Technical) Course commencing in April, 2019.

All the candidates who have successfully qualified in the written exam are required to register themselves online on the Indian Army Recruiting website joinindianarmy.nic.in within two weeks of announcement of written result. The successful candidates would them be allotted Selection Centres and dates, of SSB interview which shall be communicated on the registered e-mail ID.

Career Prospects: After successful completion of training, the candidates pass out in the rank of Flying Officer and will be entitled to the pay and allowances of the rank. Time scale promotions to the rank of Flight Lieutenant, Squadron Leader, Wing Commander and Group Captain are granted on completion of 2 years, 6 years, 13 years and 26 years of successful service respectively. Grant of Group Captain (select) and higher ranks is only by selections. Promising officers have a fair chance of getting higher promotions to air ranks—Air Commodore, Air Vice Marshal and Air Marshal.
