UN Civil Services Young Professionals Program Examination 2012 – A Golden Opportunity To Join As An International Civil Servant

The United Nations is looking for highly qualified candidates from worldwide who are looking for a professional career as an international civil servant. The young professionals programme (YPP) is a recruitment initiative that brings new talent to the United Nations through an annual entrance examination.

This Young Professional Program (YPP) is intended to select only from the creamy layer professionals who have a very good track record. Although YPP selection examination is held annually, for Indians this one of the exclusive chances as this has invited applications from Indian professional for this year after 2010. YPP offers an excellent platform for launching a highly compelling career through the United Nations Organization.

After long years of waiting, Indian young professionals with excellent academics are going to get a chance to join the International Civil Services through Young Professionals Program as announced by the United Nations, recently. With a joint venture of Union Ministry for External Affairs and United Nations, this has been happened for the first time after 2010 that this international level prestigious job has come in picture.

Level of Job profile:            P-2

Nature of Job profile: International Civil Service

Mode of Application: ON-LINE only Through the Website of UN Careers at https://careers.un.org

Important Dates:

  • Starting date for receipt of ONLINE application form: 13th of July 2012
  • End date for receipt of application form: 12th of September 2012

Nature of Job family:          There are 6 job families have been requested for the year 2012. They are contextual to various academic fields as per the details mentioned below.

  • Engineering (Architecture)
  • Economic Affairs
  • Information System and Technology
  • Political Affairs
  • Public Information
  • Social Sciences

Basic Eligibility Conditions:

a)   Nationality:

A candidate interested in YPP must be a national citizen of any of the participating nations as per the list of UN as mentioned below

Afghanistan, Algeria, Andorra, Angola, Antigua and Barbuda, Australia, Austria, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Belgium, Bhutan, Brazil, Brunei Darussalam, Central African Republic, Chad, Colombia, Comoros, Cyprus, Estonia, France, Georgia, Germany, Greece, Guinea-Bissau, Honduras, Hungary, India, Indonesia, Iraq, Israel, Italy, Jamaica, Japan, Kiribati, Latvia, Lesotho, Liberia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Mexico, Moldova, Monaco, Montenegro, Mozambique, Namibia, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Oman, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, Paraguay, Poland, Portugal, Republic of Korea, Romania, Saint Lucia, Samoa, San Marino, Saudi Arabia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Solomon Islands, Spain, St Vincent and the Grenadines, Sweden, Switzerland, Syria, Tajikistan, The former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Togo, Tonga, Turkey, Tuvalu, United Kingdom, United States, Vanuatu

b)   Age:   A candidate must not have attained an age of 32 years as on the deadline of date for receipt of application.

c)   Academics:   Candidates must hold a first level University Degree in their respective streams of academics.

d)   Language Proficiency: A candidate must have proficiency in English or French both in written and verbal abilities.

Appointment Period:         

Initially a candidate will be appointed for a period of two years in P-1 level. Depending upon his performance and track records, he may be granted promotion to the P-2 level of service with United Nations. With performance track records and on meeting educational requirements P-2 level candidates can apply for P-3 level as an when advertised.

Application Fees:

UN does not charge any fee for recruitment at any stage. Hence candidates interested for such services need not to pay any fee in this regard.

Selection Procedure:

The selection of YPP will follow a three step procedure:

Step 1:         Initial Scrutiny of Application

Step 2:         Written exam at designated Test Centers

Step 3:         Oral / Voice Interview through VTC (Video Tele-Conferencing) or through SKYPE

Special Note:

  • United Nations will offer equal opportunity to male and female for selection of eligible young professionals.
  • United Nations will disqualify the candidature if a candidate applies for more than 1 job family
  • No experience is required for P-2 levels of jobs as stated above
