Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) invites applications from interested and eligible candidates for Special Class Railway Apprentice SCRA 2013 Examination.

Last Date for Submission of Application: November 12, 2012 till 11.59 PM

About Special Class Railway Apprentice (SCRA):

Special Class Railway Apprentice is a competitive Exam, managed/ conducted by UPSC, on the behalf of Ministry of Indian Railways (Railway Board) for the appointment of personnel in the Indian Railways Mechanical Department.

Special Class Railway Apprentice must pass within this period the Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering from Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra (Ranchi). The apprentices will be granted a stipend of Rs. 9100/- per month during the 1st and 2nd years and Rs 9400/- per month during the 3rd year and first six months of 4th year and Rs 9700 for last six months of 4th year During the apprenticeship, the candidates will be required to undergo both theoretical and practical training. There will be in all Eight Semester Examinations passing each of which is compulsory. If unsuccessful at any of these examinations, they will be depending on their performance, be asked to sit for and pass in supplementary examination or reverted to the next lower batch or removed from apprenticeship.

The period of probation will be Sixteen months. The appointment and pay as probationers will commence from the date of completion of four years of the apprenticeship or the actual date of completion of training whichever is later.

Successful candidates in SCRA exam will undergo a four year Apprenticeship Training program, before they will be appointed as probationers in the Indian Railway Service of Mechanical Engineers.

Eligibility:

Nationality / Citizenship:

A candidate must be either a Citizen of India, or a subject of Nepal, or a subject of Bhutan, or a Tibetan Refugee who came over to India before January 01, 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India, or a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania (formerly Tanganyika and Zanzibar), Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.

Please be noted that any candidate other than a citizen of India, shall be a person in whose favour a certificate of eligibility has been issued by the Government of India.

Age Limit:

The Minimum age limit for appearing in SCRA 2013 is 17 years, and the Maximum age limit for appearing in SCRA 2013 is 21 years As on January 01, 2013.

Educational Qualification:

A) Must have passed in the first or second division, the Intermediate or an equivalent Examination of a University or Board approved by the Government of India with Mathematics and at least one of the subjects Physics and Chemistry as subjects of the examination.

Graduates with Mathematics and at least one of the subjects Physics and Chemistry as their degree subjects may also apply, or

B) must have passed in the first or second division, the Higher Secondary (12 years) Examination under 10 plus 2 pattern of School Education with Mathematics and at least one of the subjects Physics and Chemistry as subjects of the examination, or

C) must have passed the first year Examination under the three year degree course of a university or the first examination of the three year diploma course in Rural Service of the National Council for Rural Higher Education or the third year Examination for promotion to the 4th year of the four year B.A./B.Sc. (Evening College) Course of the Madras University with Mathematics and at least one of the subjects Physics and Chemistry as subjects of the examination provided that before joining the degree/diploma course he passed the Higher Secondary examination or the Pre-University or equivalent examination in the first or second division.

Candidates who have passed the first/second year examination under the three-years degree course in the first or second division with Mathematics and either Physics or Chemistry as subjects of the Examination may also apply; provided the first/second year examination is conducted by a University; or

D) Must have passed in the first or second division the Pre-Engineering Examination of a University, approved by the Government of India; or

E) Must have passed in the first or second division the Pre-Professional/Pre-Technological Examination of any Indian University or a recognised Board, with Mathematics and at least, one of the subjects Physics and Chemistry as subjects of the examination conducted one year after the Higher Secondary or Pre-University stage; or

F) Must have passed the first year examination under the five year Engineering Degree Course of a University : Provided that before joining the Degree Course, he passed the Higher Secondary Examination or pre-University or equivalent examination in the first or second division.

Candidates who have passed the first year Examination of the five-year Engineering Degree Course in the first or second division may also apply provided the first year Examination is conducted by a University; or

G) Must have passed in the first or second division the Pre-Degree Examination of the Universities of Kerala and Calicut with Mathematics and at least one of the subjects Physics and Chemistry as subjects of the examination.

Application Fee: Rs. 100/- (Rupees one Hundred only)

Applicants are suggested to pay the application fee either by depositing the money in any Branch of SBI by Cash, or by using net banking facility of SBI, State Bank of Bikaner & Jaipur/State Bank of Hyderabad/State Bank of Mysore/State Bank of Patiala/State Bank of Travancore or by using Visa/Master Credit/Debit Card.

All female candidates and Candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes/PH are not required to pay any fee.

Special Class Railway Apprentice (SCRA) Examination has been divided into two parts namely

  • Part I
  • Part II

Part I is of written examination again divided into three papers carrying a maximum marks of 600 as mentioned below

Note: There is Negative Marking for wrong answers.

Part II is of Personality Test carrying a maximum marks of 200 marks. Only those candidates who are declared qualified on the results of Part I Examination, may appear for Part II.

Interested and eligible Candidates are suggested to apply online at UPSC Online website www.upsconline.nic.in only. The applicants are advised to submit single application only.

UPSC SCRA 2013 Result:

The result of the written part (Part I) of the Examination is likely to be declared in the month of March/ April, 2013.

UPSC SCRA Admit Card 2013:

The eligible candidates shall be issued an e-Admit Card three weeks before the commencement of the examination. Candidates can be download SCRA Exam Admit Card 2013 through UPSC official website //upscadmitcard.nic.in.
