A German Scientist Dr. Schomberg discovered the trace of monazite on the imported core of Sankaramangalam in 1909. A private company has established the FX Perira and Sons in 1932 as the forerunner to KMML. The company later taken over by State Government and placed under the control of Industrial Department (1956).
