With the recent initiative, the Indian Navy Sports Control Board has announced to intake young unmarried Indian Male, who have excellent contribution in Sports of various disciplines to join as sailors in Indian Navy. The details of the application and eligibility criteria along with the selection procedure are mentioned underneath:

Sports Disciplines:
Any outstanding Sportsmen who have participated at International/ Junior or Senior Level National Championship/ Senior level State Championship/ All India Inter University Championship in the disciplines of Athletics, Aquatics, Basketball, Boxing, Cricket, Golf, Football, Gymnastics, Handball, Hockey, Kabaddi, Volleyball, Weightlifting, Wrestling, Yachting, Kayaking/Canoeing, Fencing, Squash and Tennis.
Position-wise Eligibility Norms:
- Direct Entry Petty Officer:
Educational Qualifications: 10+2 pass in any discipline
Sports Qualification: Should have participated in International/ National/ State level at junior /senior level or represented a University in the Inter University tournament (in team events) or Should have achieved 6th position in National (Seniors) or 3rd position in National (Juniors) or 3rd position in the Inter University meets.
Age Requirement: Should be within 17 to 22 years as on date of commencement of course. Should have been born between 01-Aug-1991 to 31-Jul-1996
- Senior Secondary Recruitment (SSR):
Educational Qualifications: 10+2 pass in any discipline
Sports Qualification: Should have participated in International/ National/ State level at junior /senior level or represented a University in the Inter University tournament.
Age Requirement: Should be within 17 to 21 years as on date of commencement of course. Should have been born between 01-Aug-1992 to 31-Jul-1996
- Matric Recruits (MR):
Educational Qualifications: 10th class pass
Sports Qualification: Should have participated at International/National/State level tournament.
Age Requirement: Should be within 17 to 21 years as on date of commencement of course. Should have been born between 01-Aug-1992 to 31-Jul-1996
- Non-Matric Recruits (MR):
Educational Qualifications: 6th class pass
Sports Qualification: Should have participated at International/National/State level tournament.
Age Requirement: Should be within 17 to 21 years as on date of commencement of course. Should have been born between 01-Aug-1992 to 31-Jul-1996
Salary, Emoluments and Pay Structure:
- The sailors will be eligible to receive a stipend of Rs.5700 per month during the initial training period
- On completion of initial training, they will be placed in the Pay Band Rs.5200- Rs.20200 and a Grade Pay of Rs.2000 plus MSP of Rs. 2000 plus DA
- The candidates who join will be promoted up to the rank of Master Chief Petty Officer-I (equivalent to Subedar Major)
Selection Norms:
- The selection of aspirants will be done on the following norms.
- Deserving candidates would be called to appear for trials at designated Naval Centers.
- The candidates qualifying trials will undergo medical examination at INS Hamla, Mumbai.
- The offer of enrolment will be forwarded to the selected candidates only, which will be strictly determined by requirement in particular sports disciplines and availability of vacancies.
Medical Standards:
- The candidates will have to undergo a medical standard test where the minimum height, weight, chest, and eyesight will be tested to the level of requirement in armed service as defined by Indian Navy. The candidates are advised to clean their ear for wax and teeth for tartar before applying for this test.
- The minimum acceptable standard for medical test will be as per the guidelines in the notification from IHQ MoD (Navy) through No (Spl) 01/2008
Training and Preliminary Engagement:
The candidates who have been selected for preliminary engagement with the national merit list will have to undergo training at the INS Chilka and at different Naval Training Establishments.
Any candidate found not up to the standard as required for Naval Recruitment will be returned back declaring UNSUITABLE on account of under-performance
The initial engagement after successful completion of training will be for 15 years in Indian Navy.
