WOMEN – FLYING OFFICERS – SHORT SERVICE COMMISSION – 10 YEARS, WHICH MAY EXTENDABLE FOR FOUR MORE YEARS – METEOROLOGY BRANCH
Indian Air Force invites applications from spirited and dynamic women to join the Indian Air Force as commissioned officers in meteorology branch, course commencing in January, 2014 for grant of short service commission. Candidates below 25 years of age must be unmarried. Marriage is not permitted during training period. Married candidate’s above 25 years of age are also eligible to apply, but during training period they will be neither provided married accommodation nor can they live out with family. Candidates appearing in final year or semester examination may also apply, but must be able to produce degree certificate latest by December 15, 2013.
Note: 10% of vacancies are reserved for NCC Air Wing ‘C’ certificate holders.
Successful candidates will be appointed as short service commission officers in Meteorology Branch for a period of ten years. An extension of four years may be granted, subject to availability of vacancies.

Eligibilty Criteria:
Age Limit: Minimum 20 years and Maximum 25 years as on January 01, 2014. The upper age limit is relaxed up to 27 years for candidates who have completed Ph.D after requested education qualification.
Educational Qualification: Post graduate degree in any science stream with minimum 50% marks in aggregate as mentioned below;
Mathematics/ Statistics/ Geography/ Computer Applications/ Environmental Science/ Applied Physics/ Oceanography/ Meteorology/ Agricultural Meteorology/ Ecology & Environment/ Environmental Biology
Note: Math & Physics at graduation level with minimum 55% marks in both is required.
Physical Standards:
Minimum height of 152 cm is required with correlated weight. All other medical criteria would be evaluated by the AIF medical authorities whose decision would be final.
Selection Process:
Shortlisted candidates will be called for testing at any of the air force selection boards at Dehradun, Mysore, Gandhinagar, or Varanasi.
There will be two stages,
- Stage 1 (Day One)
(Screening Test) – Intelligence Test along with other tests will be conducted on the first day. Only those who qualify in that very test undergo subsequent test.
Document verification to check that the candidates are eligible for Meteorology Branch, will be for those candidates who have qualified in screening test.
- Stage 2 (Day Two, Day Three, Day Four, and Day Five)
Psychological test, Group Test, followed by Interview will be conducted on subsequent days.
Medical examination will be conducted at AFCME, New Delhi, OR IAM, Bengaluru.
Pay Scale: Flying Officers will be entitled to pay in pay band of Rs. 15,600 – 39, 100/- pm along with grade pay, Military service pay, Dearness Allowance, Kit maintenance Allowance, Transport Allowance, and other allowances as per nature of duty.
Gross Monthly Emoluments – Rs. 52, 444/- Approx
Officers are entitled for other benefits as well like officer’s mesh facility, medical cover for self and dependent, Insurance of Rs. 50 Lakh, and much more.
