Chennai Port is a major container port situated on the East coast of the Indian Peninsula known as the Coromandel Coast in the Bay of Bengal. The port previously known as Madras Port has played a vital role in accelerating economic growth in Tamil Nadu.
The port has 24 berths, 3 docks (namely Dr. Ambedkar Dock, Satabt Jawahar Dock and Bharathi Dock) and drafts of various ranges. The port is efficient in handling bulk cargo, container traffic, cars and project cargo. An ISO 14001: 2004 and ISPS compliant port, it has evolved into becoming second largest port in the country after Mumbai Port.
