National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) 2013 is an All India Medical Entrance Test for admission to MBBS Colleges in India.

For all science students, it medical field has become important as compared to BSC field, Which is why we see lakhs of students who want to join medical field. NEET becomes inevitable for students aspiring to become doctors. The medical entrance exams will be held on May 2013 and will be the first ever National eligibility cum entrance test for MBBS and the BDS courses. An estimated 10 lakh students are appearing for this maiden entrance exam for 355 medical colleges and 29 dental colleges all across the country. The CBSE will prepare the merit list for the state authorities.

Format for NEET

It is a paper pencil test that comprises of 180 objective type questions and each subjects like physics, chemistry, botany, zoology are set on the syllabus provided by the Medical Council of India. Students will be given 3 hours to complete and each question will have 1/4th negative marking. The MBBS entrance exams are held in 2 stages. One is the preliminary exam and the other is the final exam.

Criteria for NEET

For those aspiring to be in the field of medical science, it is compulsory to appear for the NEET –UG for 2013. The eligibility criteria for NEET are that the student should score at least 50% in the 12th grade with physics, chemistry, and biology as the main subjects. For the reserved category, SC, ST, OBC, it is 40% and for the disabled students it is 45%. However, BSc is not required.

Criteria for MBBS

For those who want to pursue MBBS, the CET will be held on the national level for the MBBS course and is mandatory to score 50% in the NEET. For the reserved category, the minimum marks will be 40% and for the disable aspirants it will be 45%. The scores are based on the highest marks in the All India common merits list.

Student’s preparation

The entrance exam is based on CBSE board and therefore a through reading of the textbooks is recommended. Books of NCERT should be read and comprehend each and every line thoroughly. As NEET comprises of 180 questions, practice is a must and time management significant. Students are given 3 hours to complete the paper. Every question should be solved in one minute, which means lots of practice and mock test should be taken up by students. Students should go through various papers held in the previous year this will help a lot.

Students have to work hard for their medical entrance examination long before the actual exam. The syllabus for the medical entrance exam is similar all over the country. Students can refer the AIPMT syllabus. It is necessary that students begin to prepare for the NEET when they enter their 11th grade. It is the best time to start as the exam consists of syllabus taken from 11th as well as 12th class.

Students should consider that the portion is vast and set a goal to complete the syllabus. Short term goal is recommended. It is better to plan for a week. It is not necessary to buy all the books available in the market. Buy only those that are popular and cover the entire topic. It is better to clear about unclear subjects immediately with your teacher.

Overcome weakness and know your strength. Be well prepared as the time for the NEET comes near. Revision is the best form of studying.
