The Board of Secondary Education of Rajasthan (BSER) has been working tremendously since the time of its establishment. The BSER was established with an objective of accomplishing complete literacy in the state of Rajasthan.
The tale of the Beginning…
The study of history of Board of Secondary Education Rajasthan shows a remarkable progress in its records of development. The BSER was established in the city of Jaipur on 4th December 1957 and was later shifted to Ajmer in 1961. The functioning of the board began in the year 1973.
The Examination
The BSER is now conducting seven prominent examinations which are inclusive of
- Secondary School Examination.
- Senior Secondary Examination.
- Science/commerce/arts/fine arts.
- Praveshika Pariksha.
- Varishtha Upadhyaya Pariksha/ Sanskrit Shiksha.
- National Talent Search Examination.
- Science Talent Search Examination.
The Members of the Board
The BSER is constituted under the Rajasthan Secondary Education Act 1957. The board constitutes of a chairman, 7 ex-office members inclusive of vice chairman, 7 elected members, 17 nominated members of the state government and 2 nominated members by the speaker of legislative assembly. The chairman of the board is nominated by the State government. The director is nominated as the vice chairman of the board. The term of the board is three years. The Secretary is nominated by the state government. The employees and officers work according the rules formulated by the board.
The BSER has many ways to enhance the quality in education by conducting a number of competitive exams, awarding the toppers and talented students and recognizing institutions.
Awards and Rewards
The BSER honors the meritorious students by felicitating them with gold medals. The board also awards in the form of cash along with the medals to the students obtaining highest marks. Two medals are specially kept for girls. Shields are presented to the schools which have the highest number of toppers. Scholarships are provided to the students securing the first 15 positions and first 10 positions in the Praveshika exam. Students who grab a place in the first thirty positions are provided with scholarships. The board also provides scholarships in various domains and Sanskrit school exams.

The institutes which admit more candidates for the secondary, Praveshika, Senior secondary and Varishta Upadhyaya, exams will be recognized by the Board of Secondary Education Rajasthan.

Development of Students
The board organizes a number of competitions at different levels to help the children grow in various fields. To enhance non scholastic talents of the students, state level competitions are conducted in the areas of creative writing, elocution/ debate, quiz competitions, drawing and music. In order to bring out the talent hidden in the young minds, the board organizes talent search exams. In addition to these personality development camps are organized to build self-confidence and positive thinking approach in the children.
Helping the Teachers to Grow
The BSER tracks and train the teachers in an effective way in order to bring standard in education. The board organizes paper reading seminar, organizes teaching competitions, essay competitions and seminars which help in research and development, preparation of question banks etc.
