Baroda – Manipal School of Banking: Gateway To A Successful Banking Career

Bank of Baroda has been able to provide job opportunities to the students across different profiles. Starting from humble backgrounds in 1908 from Vadodara, Bank of Baroda has grown on to become the 3rd largest Nationalized Bank of the country, with around 3700 branches in over 26 countries. From time to time, Bank of Baroda comes out with advertisements for the posts of Probationary Officers, Clerks and Specialist Officers in large numbers. In 2012, there have been advertisements for 2000 Clerical Posts, 600 Probationary Officer Posts and 125 Specialist Officer Posts.

The selection of the candidates for different posts is done after they come up with their score of Common Written Exam conducted by the Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS), every year. Working with Bank of Baroda has its own merits, attributed much to the factors that are inherent to the bank itself. Firstly, there are a large number of recruitment offers that are published from time to time at various levels of professionalism.

Expansion in the number of branches and the spectrum of banking activities warrants more workforces which would be satisfied only if recruitment is done at a regular interval. The bank is involved in customer centric activities. Setting up of NRI specific branches, Gen-Next branches, SME loan facilities, etc. are some of the steps that have been taken by the bank with its modernization and standardization. Business Process Reengineering is a special initiative for satisfying the customers. Automated cheque processing, faster account opening, automated branches, etc. are being introduced at the Tier-II cities by this Bank.

Baroda – Manipal School of Banking – An initiative to prepare bankers from the core:

Bank of Baroda is the right place to start a career in banking, with a definite assurance to take people to a prosperous road ahead. To allow the best brains among the student communities to be a part of the prestigious bank, it has undertaken a collaborative step with the Manipal Group of Institutions in recent years. As a result of this initiative, the Baroda-Manipal School of Banking (BMSB) has been set up, by a joint collaboration of the Bank of Baroda and the Manipal Group. It is through this school that the bright young graduates are trained professionally for a dynamic career in banking with the Bank of Baroda.

Course program for Post Graduate Diploma in Banking from Baroda Manipal School of Banking

Under this program, the students are trained for a year in the course of Banking and Finance before they can start their career in Banking.

  • The program offered is a full time residential training program for one year and is to be pursued in the campus of Baroda Manipal School of Banking located in Bangalore.
  • When the incumbent students finish the course, they receive their Post Graduate Diploma in Banking and are recruited directly into the Bank of Baroda as Probationary Officers in the rank of JMG/S-I.
  • The entry into this program is done through rigorous selection process after which they are trained systematically in various aspects of Banking and Management, so that at the end of the program, they are well versed in Banking and Finance aspects of business.
  • Under the program, the primary aim is to train the students in practical knowledge and specialized management on banking related topics.
  • For the purpose, the curriculum is divided into 9 months on campus studies and 3 months of internship period in different branches of Bank of Baroda. The 9 months have been divided into 3 trimesters.

Since its inception in the year 2011 on 29th of August, 4 batches of students have been already admitted into Baroda – Manipal School of Banking (BMSB). One batch is inducted every three months, each batch comprising of about 180 students.

For the year 2012-2013, the admission process for a new batch has been initiated with the official notification on 4th of June, 2012. Interested candidates can now visit the site of www.barodamanipalschoolofbanking.com and know about the different criteria and requirements for the purpose of admissions into the course. Interested candidates can log on to this website to submit their online applications starting from 7th June 2012 till 21st June 2012.

 

Selection for the year 2012-2013

  1. Starting July 2012, there will be intake of 4 batches of students, each batch containing of 240 students.
  2. Mode of Application:

An online application form is available to be filled up at the official site or through the link provided in the careers page in the Bank of Baroda official site (www.bankofbaroda.com).

Candidates are required to fill in the Online Application only and no official or postal correspondence will be entertained.

  1. Educational Qualifications:

The educational qualification for the filling up of application form and being allowed for the written test is Graduation in any discipline from a recognized University or any equivalent degree recognized by the Central Government, as on 1st of August 2012.

  1. Age Factor:

Age limit for the candidates is cited to be a minimum of 21 years and a maximum of 30 years as on 1st of August 2012, which can be relaxed based on the Government norms regarding age relaxation for privileged categories.

  1. 5.        Selection Procedure:

As per the process of admission, an Online Test would be conducted across 50 specified centers in the country, and the candidate has to specify two preferred centers of which one would be allotted with greatest probability.

The selection is done in the mode of Online Written Aptitude Test followed by Group Discussion and finally the Interview will decide the result.

  1. Important Points while filling up of the Online Application:

During the process of filling up the application form, the candidates are supplied with their User ID and Password, which can be used later on to retrieve their hall tickets or admit cards as and when notified.

During the application process, the emails and phone numbers are to be provided, which will be utilized by the officials for advancing any notifications regarding the exam.

  1. 7.        Courses/ Syllabus:

The remaining features pertaining to the appearance in the online test can be known from the advertisements. The course or topics which would be encountered during the Aptitude Test are logical reasoning, quantitative aptitude, English language, general awareness, with wrong answers having negative markings.

  1. 8.        Probable Date of Examination:

After the form fill up date through online mode is over, the probable dates of exams will be notified in the month of July 2012, which have been tentatively marked from 5th of July 2012, to 11th of July 2012.

  1. 9.        Mode of Payment and Payment of Application fees:

There is a scheduled examination fee, which is to be submitted at the time of filling up the form as per the following criteria.

For General Category/ OBC – Rs. 400

For SC, ST and PWD – Rs. 50

Payment can be either made by online mode through credit card or debit card or through offline mode by taking the printout of the challan (from the website) to the nearest Bank of Baroda branch and paying the requisite money along with the transaction fee.

After the challan copy is received, the candidates will have to re-login into their accounts using the ID they had received and fill in the necessary details about the fee payment.

The original copy of the challan form is to be produced during the time of online Aptitude Test along with the Call Letter. The fee has to be deposited within 21st June 2012.

Special Note:

Pursuing training in the Institute (BMSB) is virtually cashless because of the option of availing the loan amount of the entire fee, which can be repaid over a period of time, after the students take up the job as probationary officer.

Lure of a banking career is unfoundedly quite high in the country. With the introduction of IBPS exam for recruitment into various nationalized banks, the prospect of getting a job in the government banks is quite high. But still the Baroda – Manipal School of Banking (BMSB) has initiated a novel means to bring in more number of candidates suitable for becoming Probationary Officers.
