Career In Textile Technology

In today’s scenario textile plays a very important role in reflecting once personality. They are indulged with various types of fabrics such as natural or synthetic. They are made through planning, production and development of new technology. Textile engineering is the study of principles that specific the knowledge of textile processes and equipment. This field is also related to braches of chemical, electronics, mechanical, computer and structural to deal with significant fabrics, apparel process and designs.

Apart from garments, textiles also get utilized for carpet, furnishing, table cloth, towels and curtains etc. Based upon their usage they are divided into technical textile, medical and agro textiles. Technical is made up of zinc oxide that protects material from heat and radiation. Agro textile protects the farmers and agriculture engineers from soil and pollution whereas medical textile is used for orthopaedic implants, artificial ligaments, heart valves and vascular grafts. The economic scope of the textile industries got extended with the impact of human activities. Hence it became important to carry out such engineering by which benefits to the society can be made.

Selection to B.Tech and BE are based upon the scores achieved in 12th boards. Along with merit of entrance exam conducted for the admission to national or state level colleges.   For getting admission in master degree one has to qualify Graduate Aptitude Test for Engineering entrance exam. There are various institutes that carry out their own entrance for selection into engineering courses. B.Tech programmes in textile engineering is carried out for 4 years whereas M.Tech is of 2 years duration. Aspirants with good communication, problem solving, analytical and logical skills will be provided more preference.

Textile industry is a creative and innovative field that provide diverse job opportunity to young generation. At the beginning one can start from small business firms and can later switch to larger units. They cover areas of production, development, corporate management, supervision, marketing and sales. Textile engineers can find jobs in textile mile, cotton yarn, knitwear industries, printing units, export houses and manufacturing sectors. They can even go for government or private based companies job related to silk, jute, handlooms and khadi etc.  Individual can also start career in teaching this subject at reputed college or can pursue self employment. Salary of candidates in textile industry may vary based upon there position and type of work assigned. They are generally employed in areas of designing, selling, marketing and manufacturing.
