Education and skills required:
Education: Unmarried male citizens who have obtained 55% average marks in Science and Math in matriculation and have age limit of 16-19 years or if the individual has passed 10+2 exam with 50% average marks in PCM subjects (with minimum 50% average marks in Physics and Math) are eligible to apply. Before their entry, they are required to pass the Physical Fitness test and written test. 10+2 cadet entry scheme requires the candidate to be 10+2 pass with 70% average marks in PCM subjects and at least 50% marks in English subject either in class X or XII.
Skills: A part from the hard and technical skills, the navy officer must have the following soft skills:

- Technical and Military skills
How to Apply:
After the candidates have been selected for training at their prestigious Navy College in Pune and Cochin, they are trained there for a career in Naval Architecture, Electronic, Marine, and Electrical Cadres of the Indian Navy. They are then called for interview by SSB after their successful completion of 4 years of training and a physical fitness test. On passing these, they are granted permanent commission in Indian Navy.
Roles and Responsibilities:
The individual aspiring to make their career with Indian Navy must be comfortable in working with latest technology environment. They are exposed to the best in their field of operations. Men in white command dignity and are required to discharge following roles and responsibilities:
- Plan and direct navy operations
- Supervise combat activities
- Present as combat leaders
- Lead their units as assigned
- Protect the property on navy bases and vessels
- Prepared to work for long hours owing to a mission
- Protection of the weapons, tanks and other artillery systems
- Plan and prepare for various natural and human made disasters
