XAT Exam: An Opportunity Above Opportunities For A Career In Business Management

Xavier Admission Test (XAT) one of the reputed entrance examinations of the country conducted on behalf of Xavier Labour Relations Institute (XLRI), Jamshedpur. This is an entrance test for admission into post-graduate management programs through 16 core member institutes of XLRI and as many as 85 other B-schools across the country. XLRI having immense repute as one of the coveted management institutions in the country, this examination remains one of the most awaited entrance examinations for aspirants who want to excel into management as subjective post-graduation.

Opportunities through XAT Exam:

XLRI Jamshedpur has 240 seats in Business Management courses. Besides XLRI, there are almost 85 other institutes which accept XAT scores for admission of candidates in their management courses. Although the course fee for management courses through XAT exam is a little bit on a higher side for any average Indian family, the fact is that any management graduate passing out from XLRI and other associated institutes are compensated far better in comparison to their counterparts. Whereas the foreign placements can offer you as high as $90,000 per annum, in domestic placements the graduates from XLRI can expect a rocketing figure of around 32 Lakhs per annum. These figures are subjective and are only meant for denoting the importance of XAT as one of the best management entrance exams of the country.

Registration for XAT Exam:

XAT exam is usually conducted during the first week of January every year. The registration process commensurate in the month of September and application forms are made available to the candidates through Axis bank and other Xavier’s Institute counters. Applicants can also register for this examination through online and can pay the registration fees through their credit cards, debit cards and through online bank transfer.

Minimum basic educational criteria:

An applicant needs to be a graduate while appearing for XAT examination. Any 10+2+3 system will suffice a candidate to appear in XAT. There is no specific percentage need to be scored in the graduation. XLRI also allow candidate who have appeared for their final year of graduation program, during the examination. A degree from any recognized university in India will allow a candidate to sit for this examination by the process of registration.

The pattern of examination:

This examination follow the pattern of examination conducted for CAT. The only exception here is that an aspirant needs to appear the examination in pencil and paper, in contrast to Computer Based Test (CBT) pattern through CAT. The examination is having almost 100 questions which are to be answered in a stipulated time of 140 minutes. Each correct answer carries one mark while each wrong answer here carries 0.25 as negative score. Hence, it is advised that every student should follow the questions precisely so as to avoid negative markings.

The test contains multiple choice questions which are divided into three parts – General English, Reasoning and Quantitative Ability and General Awareness on Current Affairs. There is single question of essay type, where a candidate needs to write an essay of around 300 words.

Aspirants vying for taking up XAT exam should know that the score of XAT are rewarded by almost 60% top MBA colleges in India. Therefore the importance of this examination increases as increases the numbers of applicants. Any students aspiring for a better scoring in XAT should be persistent with preparation and should follow the previous year’s question papers to know about the patterns.
