West Bengal Public Service Commission Recruitment 2014 For Various Positions At The State Level
The West Bengal Public Service Commission (WBPSC) is the state level nodal agency, which has been entrusted with the responsibility of competent selection of personnel from various categories of candidates to join the state level services as required by various departments of the state government. As one of the most respectable state agency in the state of West Bengal, the Public Service Commission is operating in line with the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) at the central level. The WBPSC plays a vital role in supporting the Government of West Bengal in terms of Human Resource acquisition, training and recruitment.
With the recent notification, the WBPSC invites competent candidates for recruitment of various vacancies at different levels of government operation.
The details of the vacancies and the recruitment profiles are mentioned as under:
Important Dates:
- Date of publication of this notification and starting date for receipt of application: 31-Mar-2014

Details of posts and corresponding requirements:
Inspector of Factories (Medical):
- Department: Department of Labor, Govt of West Bengal
- No. of posts: 04 Posts (UR-02, SC-01, ST-01)
- Pay Scale: Rs.15600 – Rs.42000 in PB-4A with Grade pay of Rs.6600 (Other allowances as applicable)
- Academics: The applicants must have completed MBBS along with a Diploma in Industrial Health/ Public Health.
- Experience: At least six (6) months practical training as House Staff in Government Hospital or other recognized institution is desirable.
- Age: Should not be more than 35 years as on 01-Jan-2014.
Geography Mistress, Dow Hill Girls’ School, Kurseong:
- Department: Department of School Education, Govt of West Bengal
- No. of posts: 01 Post (Reserved for persons with disability and not suitable for Male)
- Pay Scale: Rs.15600 – Rs.42000 with Grade pay of Rs.5400 (Other allowances as applicable)
- Academics: The applicants must have completed Second class Master’s Degree or Honors Degree in Geography along with Degree in Teaching or Education or equivalent.
- Experience: Must have Teaching experience in English medium in secondary schools, preferably residential ones. May be relaxable for exceptionally qualified persons. But candidates should be able to teach in English Medium. Ability to organize extracurricular activities & Speaking/ Writing knowledge of Nepali is desirable.
- Age: Should not be more than 35 years as on 01-Jan-2014.
Assistant Director of Agriculture:
- Department: Agriculture Department, Govt of West Bengal
- No. of posts: 177 Posts (UR-104, SC-38, ST-11, OBC-A-12, OBC-B-06, PWD-06)
- Pay Scale: Rs.15600 – Rs.42000 in PB-4A with Grade Pay of Rs.5400 (Other allowances as applicable)
- Academics: The applicants must have completed 4 years Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture.
- Experience: Knowledge of Agricultural conditions in West Bengal is desirable.
- Age: Should not be more than 32 years as on 01-Jan-2014
Various Posts in Agricultural Service (Research):
- Department: Agriculture Department, Govt of West Bengal
- No. of posts: Total 41 Posts
- Pay Scale: Rs.15600 – Rs.42000 in PB-4A with Grade Pay of Rs.5400 (Other allowances as applicable)
- Experience: Knowledge of Agricultural conditions in West Bengal is desirable.

4(a). Assistant Botanist: 24 Posts (UR-11, SC-05, ST-02, OBC-A-03, OBC-B-02, PWD-01)
- Academics: The applicants must have obtained first class in Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s Degree in Botany/ Genetics & Plant Breeding/ Plant Physiology/ Agricultural Botany/ Seed Science & Technology.
4(b). Assistant Agricultural Chemist/ Analytical Chemist/ Junior Soil Scientist: 08 Posts (UR-02, SC-02, ST-01, OBC-A-01, OBC-B-01, PWD-01)
- Academics: The applicants must have obtained first class in Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s Degree in Agricultural Chemistry/ Bio-Chemistry/ Soil & Water Conservation/ Soil Physics/ Soil Survey/ Microbiology/ Agricultural Chemicals.
4(c). Assistant Entomologist: 01 Post (SC)
- Academics: The applicants must have obtained first class in Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s Degree in Entomology.
4(d). Assistant Agronomist: 02 Posts (SC-01, OBC-B-01)
- Academics: The applicants must have obtained first class in Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s Degree in Agronomy.
4(e). Assistant Plant Pathologist/ Assistant Mycologist: 06 Posts (UR-03, SC-01, OBC-A-01, PWD-01)
- Academics: The applicants must have obtained first class in Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s Degree in Plant Pathology/ Mycology.
Application Fees:
- For Unreserved & OBC-A/ OBC-B category: Rs. 210
- For SC, ST from West Bengal & PWD: NIL
- The application fee can be remitted in shape of Indian Postal Order or Fee Payment Challan only
- No fee in shape of cash, DD or Cheque will be accepted
How to pay the Application Fees:
- Postal Order: In favor of The Secretary, Public Service Commission, West Bengal and should be crossed and purchased after the date of release of this advertisement
- Treasury Challan: In favor of “0051-00-105-State PSC Examination fees-001-Examination fees-16 other fees” and must be remitted at Reserve Bank or India, Kolkata or Govt. Treasury, West Bengal.
Mode of Selection:
- The commission will hold a Preliminary Screening Examination (Written Test) for short-listing the candidates for interview.
- The shortlisted candidates will have to appear the interview.
- Candidates selected from the above 2 stages of scrutiny will have to come for final Medical Test (if required) and Document verification.
Important Notes:
- The aspirants intend to go for the following vacancies must be able to Read, Write and Speak Bengali, invariably.
- This is not applicable for Nepali speaking candidates from the hilly areas of Darjeeling district.

- Prior to submission of application, the candidates need to read through the detailed advertisement as available at the Commission’s Website.
- Candidates if interested can apply for multiple posts with separate application forms. But, an aspirant can not apply for multiple times for a same post, which may subject to disqualification of candidature.
- The candidates have to pay the application fees in form of IPO (Indian Postal Order) or a fee receipt challan as detailed in the detailed advertisement
- Wrong or misleading information may subject to cancellation of application
- Application form must be complete in all respect
- Experience if required for certain posts will be experience counted on full time engagement only
