The Staff Selection Commission was set up in India mainly for conducting recruitment of various Indian candidates for the vacancies in Indian departments and ministries. It was set up on November 26 1977 and is headquartered in New Delhi. The upcoming year 2013 is ready to witness the recruitment for Stenographer- grade C and D post. The posts are for various Ministries/Department of Govt. of India. The dates are been set and soon the complete notification will be on the website.
The candidates must be 12th passed or equivalent from a recognized authority in India to apply for the post. The recruitments process for the post comprises of written test as well as skill test of stenography. Here is the complete detail for the exam pattern:-
Examination pattern:-
Written test: – It consist of One objective type of paper with three main sections- General Intelligence and reasoning (50 questions), General Awareness (50 questions) and English Language and Comprehension (100 questions). Each question carries 1 mark. The time duration for solving the paper is 2 hours. 0.25 marks will be reduced for the wrong answer.
Skill test (Stenography):-This test will be carried out with those candidates who clear the written test. This test includes dictation in English/Hindi with the speed of 100 words per minutes. The test will be carried out on computers only. The prescribed transcription time for grade ‘D’ stenographer is 50 words for English and 65 words for Hindi. The transcription time for Grade ‘C’ is 40 words in English and 55 minutes in Hindi.

General Intelligence and reasoning:-It consists of verbal and non-verbal questions. The questions will be based on Analogies, problem solving, decision making, visual memory, arithmetic concepts, classification etc.
General Awareness: – This section includes questions regarding General knowledge and current affairs. The everyday observation of the applicants in all the fields like History, Science, Sports, Culture, Economics and Politics will be judged in this part.
English Language and Comprehension:-Additionally the knowledge and proficiency in English will be carried out by SSC. The questions will be for testing the grammar, synonyms, antonyms and sentence structure etc.
