Sena Medal
The Sena Medal is awarded to soldiers and officers of the Indian Army who display exceptional courage under fire and devotion to duty. This award can also be awarded posthumously. Soldiers can win multiple Sena Medals, each new act of courage is added as a new bar to the medal.
The Sena Medal is preceded in importance by the Vir Chakra and the Shourya Chakra. It is awarded to soldiers for military operations in both wartime and peacetime. It is considered higher in the hierarchy than the Vishishta Seva Medal. The Sena Medal was instituted on 17th June 1960. It consists of a circular shaped silver medal with a bayonet pointed upwards.
Nao Sena Medal
The Nao Sena Medal is an award given to officers and other ranks of the Indian Navy for exceptional courage under fire. It is given for great courage and devotion to duty shown by naval personnel during military operations during wartime and peacetime.
The NaoSena Medal is preceded by the Vir Chakra and the Shourya Chakra, but it is higher than the Vishishta Seva Medal. It is the Naval equivalent of the Army’s Sena Medal. It was instituted on 17th June 1960.
Vayusena Medal
The Vayusena Medal is an award given to officers and other ranks of the Indian Air Force for displaying extraordinary courage under fire against the enemy and other high pressure situations.
It is generally awarded for devotion to duty shown during peacetime military operations by Air Force personnel, but can also be given for gallantry displayed during operations at a time of war.
The Vayusena Medal is preceded by the Vir Chakra and the Shourya Chakra. It ranks higher than the Vishishta Seva Medal. It is the Air Force equivalent of the Army’s Sena Medal. It was instituted on 17th June 1960.
