Since the dawn of Independence, India as a country has come a long way through the 21st century, to be recognized among the super powers of the world. Although this journey was not a smooth sail all along, as we had to experience untimely rough economic situations like the 1990 economic crisis, but the nation came back on track after that, mainly due to the fact that the economy became open to the world. All these six decades saw tremendous changes but one thing that retained its charm was the quintessential ‘Sarkari Naukri’ (Hindi term for Government Job). Given a chance, any person would willingly opt for a government job than to go for a private one with better pay package. This fact has remained thus all through.

The Glorious Story of Sarkari Naukri That Never Lost Its Charm In Decades Of Challenges

Indian Economic Conditions:
Indian economy, in terms of nominal Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is eleventh in the world and is third largest in Purchasing Power Parity (PPP) terms. Post independence we had a large public sector domain and import was not supported. The License Raj was prevalent, which helped none to enter business without government permit and was reason for growth in bureaucracy. So, basically there was only one reliable option, and that was to get in the public sector and grab a ‘Sarkari Naukri’. Though not as easy to say was to get the job, but the people thrived for it. The ones who succeeded where considered really lucky as they would have secured their whole life, along with their families and respective social entities. Still there were not many public companies at that time.

The Era of Liberalization:
Then in 1990’s, came the era of liberalization and quickly turned things around for the country. The government had allowed privatization and globalization after trying the Soviet model, which failed miserably. This brought huge amount of opportunities for the citizens in public as well as private sectors too. The number of jobs increased rapidly through the last two decades.

With the coming of multinational players the whole employment sector got a facelift, which it badly required. The youngsters had many options in the field of finance to technology. There was rapid growth in Banking, Infrastructure, Import – Export, Heavy Engineering and more obviously in Information Technology. All these sectors offered wide range of job options to the younger generation with heavy pay packages and even for the potent elder people who knew well about their abilities. But even after so much of growth, one still could see a heavy tilt toward the government jobs.

Reasons for Special Linking for Government Jobs (सरकारी नौकरी):
There are several reasons underlying for the people to have a special liking for government jobs. The most important reason as told earlier is the “Job Security”. If you don’t consider the salary part, still there are many post retirement benefits that no other sector can even match. The whole concept of job security came to fore even at the recent time, when the economic crisis jolted the world and heavy job losses were seen all around the world as well as India.

This did not mean the public sector was recession proof but still the job profiles were far better secured than any other domain. Any person who ever had a chance to be in a government job has never worried about the job security as that is a minimum surety. Then there is a heavy pay scale to lure the people as well from private players, it includes basic salary with dearness allowance and house rent. There is also gratuity and bonus as well on annual basis. Apart from the apparent monetary benefits there are certain other benefits as well like the government employees get loans passed very easily from any banks.

Not to forget the fixed working hours in a government job ensures you can have quality time with your family, though there may be need to stretch but it is rare. So, you see there are bag full of benefits in the ‘Sarkari Naukri’.

The Seventh Pay Commission headed by Justice AK Mathur, submitted its report to Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, suggesting 23.55% Hike in Pay and Allowances of Government Employees. The hike will be effective from 01-January-2016. The recommendations will be examined and the government will take a final decision on this. As per recommendation;

At present the Minimum salary is Rs. 7,000/- per month. After implementation of 7th Pay Commission recommendation, the Minimum Salary would be Rs. 18,000/- per month.
The Maximum Salary recommended is Rs. 2.50 lakh per month.
The 7th Pay Commission has recommended the Rate of Annual Increment @ 3%.
The 7th Pay Commission recommended 24% Hike in Pensions.
The 7th Pay Commission proposed One Rank One Pension for civilian government employees on line of OROP for armed forces.
The 7th Pay Commission Recommendations will impact 47 lakh serving Government Employees, 52 lakh Pensioners, including Defence Personnel. To get detail Report of the Seventh Central Pay Commission, please visit 7cpc.india.gov.in

There are vast numbers of jobs coming out in the above mentioned fields each year in all the states, which is really an advantaged prospect for the youth of the country. The development of infrastructure in to small towns and villages has helped to push the growth in government jobs. The process for selection normally includes a written test followed by a screening interview round with minimum levels of academic requirements.

Rising Competition in Government Sector Jobs:

The number of educated youth is ever increasing with the number of colleges growing exponentially in the last few years. The large number of graduates and post graduates look to grab a chance in the public sector to secure their future and earn good money all through as well. This also emphasizes the fact that there is huge competition for even a single post that comes in the public sector. The abundance of private sector opportunities may lure a few away but there a dedicated lot of job seekers who are ready to try their heart out for a government job. The applicants for public sectors job have equally number among male and females without discrimination. The vacancies that come out have quota allotted for the backward classes, socio-economically weaker sections, scheduled castes and tribes along with the general candidates in the non reserved category of applicants.

The Flow of Mass:

Many applicants spend years just trying to get into any of the public sector domains and consider it a frontier for themselves while preparing with all might. Even parents advise and groom their child with a mentality to thrive for the ‘Sarkari Naukri’ only. There are even dedicated coaching classes cropping up all over the country which claim to aid the quest for landing a government job. Mostly such classes are run by experts who claim to have cleared such exams with ease. They provide the aspirants hope and offer help to get them through in the exams. Some go to the level that they get a private job for the time being while they try to get a government one.

The Most Admired Cadres of Sarkari Naukri (सरकारी नौकरी):

Every government job is a hallowed one to say the least for the aspirants but there are still few which come up as the most desirable ones among the lot. The various top government jobs that are most desired among the applicants include the coveted Indian Administrative Services (IAS), Indian Police Services (IPS), Indian Revenue Services (Income Tax), Bank Probationary Officers and Specialist Officers, State Public Service commission and Indian Railways among others. The Union Public Service Commission test is a very coveted test which is held each year and thousands of aspirants keep on preparing to crack the test and get their preferred job.

The Upcoming Future of Sarkari Naukri (सरकारी नौकरी) in 2022: LATEST SARKARI NAUKRI 2023 UPDATES

The main point is still a fact that the government jobs are still high on priority list of preference for the youth who even after getting good jobs in the private sector vie to get into the public sector. The competition is growing tough every day for each available seat but this also ensures that the cream of talent reaches the government services and serves the nation with all their knowledge and ability.

The upcoming growth and expansion of the country draws a straight vertical line to the graph of Sarkari Naukri, indicating a huge rise in the upcoming vacancies. Only SBI (State Bank of India) announcing to recruit numerous positions in the year 2021, its quite obvious for the other banks and financial institutions to hire significantly large numbers of candidates. The Indian Railways has also released a notice to intake more than 12500 positions recently, and it is also expected to release further notice to adopt more numbers of candidates in the upcoming years. Similar trends can also be seen in the Indian Armed Forces where the process of recruitment has been initiated. With such statistical figure, it is expected that there will be a huge lot of employment opportunities in Sarkari sector in the year 2017. No matter how much the scenario changes the ‘Sarkari Naukri’ will always triumph its own charm till a long time to come.
