Punjab State Teacher Eligibility Test (PSTET) has been designed by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) and is being implemented by Department of School Education, Government of Punjab in the state to ensure that the persons recruited as teachers possess the essential aptitude and ability to meet the challenges of teaching at Elementary, Secondary and Senior Secondary levels.
As an essential criterion, the PSTET has to be attended by each person who wishes a career in teaching in Lower Primary, Upper Primary and High School Classes in any School under the Department of School Education, Government of Punjab. The PSTET does not confer a job, but it is the most vital criterion to adopt teaching as a career in a government school as per the recommendations of NCTE.
The PSTET notification has been released by the Department of School Education, Government of Punjab for the year 2014.

- Starting date for Online Registration: 07-July-2014 from 10:00 AM
- Last date for Online Registration: 18-July-2014 till 05:00 PM
- Last date for depositing examination fee: 19-July-2014 till bank hours
- Final date for receipt of Online Application Form after fee payment: 24-July-2014
- Downloading Of Admit Card (online): 30-July-2014 08:00 PM Onwards
- Dates for Examination: 10-Aug-2014
Structure Of PSTET:
There will be two papers of PSTET.
- Paper I will be for a person who intends to be a teacher for classes I to V.
- Paper II will be for a person who intends to be a teacher for classes VI to VIII.
Note: A person who intends to be a teacher for both levels (classes I to V and classes VI to VIII) will have to appear in both the papers (Paper I and Paper II).
Minimum Educational Qualification:
- Level – I – For becoming Primary Teacher (for Classes I-V): Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks (45% for SC/ST/OBC/PWD) and passed or appearing in final year of 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education (by whatever name known), OR, Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 45% marks (40% for SC/ST/OBC/PWD) and passed or appearing in final year of 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education (by whatever name known), in accordance with the NCTE (Recognition Norms and Procedure), Regulations, 2002, OR, Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks (45% for SC/ST/OBC/PWD) and passed or appearing in final year of 4-year Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.El.Ed), OR, Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks (45% for SC/ST/OBC/PWD) and passed or appearing in final year of 2-year Diploma in Education (Special Education), OR, Graduation and passed or appearing in final year of two year Diploma in Elementary Education (by whatever name known).
- Level – II – For becoming Teacher (for Classes VI-VIII): Graduation and passed or appearing in final year of 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education (by whatever name known), OR, Graduation with at least 50% marks (45% for SC/ST/OBC/PWD) and passed or appearing in 1-year Bachelor in Education (B.Ed), OR, Graduation with at least 45% marks (40% for SC/ST/OBC/PWD) and passed or appearing in 1-year Bachelor in Education (B.Ed), in accordance with the NCTE, OR, Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks (45% for SC/ST/OBC/PWD) and passed or appearing in final year of 4-year Bachelor in Elementary Education (B.El.Ed), OR, Senior Secondary (or its equivalent) with at least 50% marks (45% for SC/ST/OBC/PWD) and passed or appearing in final year of 4-year B.A/B.Sc.Ed or B.A. Ed/B.Sc.Ed., OR, Graduation with at least 50% marks (45% for SC/ST/OBC/PWD) and passed or appearing in 1-year B.Ed. (Special Education).

Age Limit:
There is no age limit specified for PSTET applicants.
Mode of Selection:
- The selection will be done through a Written Test, where questions will be Objective Type in nature. A person who scores competently more marks in the PSTET examination shall be considered ‘PSTET qualified’ or ‘PSTET passed’. A person who has qualified PSTET may also appear again for improving his/her score.
- This selection will be done strictly on a Merit Listing.
Application Fees:
- For General / BC / OBC Category: Rs. 600 (per paper) and Rs.1200 for both papers
- For SC / ST Category / Differently-Abled: Rs. 300 (per paper) and Rs.600 for both papers
- Ex-Servicemen Self-only: Fees exempted
- The fee can be remitted by the candidates through a System Generated e-Challan as per the instructions detailed on the advertisement any branch of AXIS Bank or By Debit/Credit Card through Online mode.
How to Apply:
- The candidates may apply through ONLINE MODE ONLY at the websites of PSTET at www.tetpunjab.com
- The applicants are advised read through the instructions and guidelines as detailed at the same website before submission of online Application form
- The candidates are advised to fill in the application with caution as there will be no chance of altering the data once the application form is submitted
- After the completion of first phase of the registration, the candidates need to take-out the system generated fee payment e-challan and deposit requisite fees as stated on the complete advertisement
- The fees can also be remitted online through Debit/ Credit Card
- After the payment of fees, the next and final step of the registration can be carried out.
- The candidates have to upload their recent scanned photograph and scanned signature at appropriate spaces on the Online Application
- The candidates should save at least 3 hardcopies of the application for future reference
- The Application Registration Confirmation Page must be dispatched in an Envelope (size 12 x 9 cm) and paste address slip on the envelope super-scribing “APPLICATION FOR PSTET” to the following address so as to reach by the last date specified:
