Office of the Controller of Patents Design and Trade Marks, under Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India, notifies for recruitment for the posts of Examiner of Patents and Design in the Level 10 in Pay Matrix (Rs. 56100-177500) plus applicable allowances as admissible, and invited online applications from eligible candidates. The selected Examiners will undergo an intensive in-house training for a period of one month with full remuneration.

Result of Preliminary Examination held on 30-09-2018: A total number of 63216 were eligible for appearing in the Preliminary Examination held on 30-09- 18 out of which 34112 candidates appeared in the examination in 14 cities across India. A total of 2650 (around 12 times of total vacancy) candidates have been shortlisted and are eligible to appear in the Mains Examination.

Educational Qualification As per Discipline:
Chemistry- Candidates must have Master’s Degree in Chemistry.
Polymer Science- Candidates must have Master’s Degree in Polymer Science or Bachelor’s Degree in Polymer Engineering/ Technology or equivalent.
Biochemistry- Candidates must have Master’s Degree in Biochemistry Biotechnology/ Micro Biology Master’s Degree in Biotechnology or Bachelor’s Degree in Biotechnology Engineering/ Master’s Degree in Micro Biology or equivalent.
Bio-Medical- Candidates must have Engineering Bachelor’s Degree in Bio-medical Engineering/ Technology or equivalent.
Computer Science/ Information Technology- Candidates must have Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Engineering/ Information Technology or Master’s Degree in Computer Science/ Information Technology or equivalent.
Electrical Engineering- Candidates must have Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering/ Technology or equivalent.

Note: Candidates having Research experience of three years or more from a recognised university or R& D institute/ Organisation; Having Degree in Law of a recognized University; Have Certificate/ Diploma from a recognized University/ Institute in a foreign language in German, French, Russian, Spanish, Chinese, Japanese; will get preferred.
Age Limit: Minimum 21 years and Maximum 35 years as on closing date for submission of online recruitment application. RelaxatiOn in upper age limit as per central government rules.

RECRUITMENT FOR THE POSTS OF EXAMINER OF PATENTS & DESIGNS 2018-19 INFORMATION BULLETIN
Job Responsibilities: The role of the Patent Office is to process the applications for grant of patents to protect and encourage inventions. The Patent Examiner is the backbone of the Patent office who is responsible for examination of the Patent applications for inventions and its claims and determines/recommends whether the patent can be granted. The duties of the examiners includes
To investigate each application and ascertain that the invention is described clearly in such a way that a skilled person would be able to use it.
To determine and assign the international patent classification (IPC) on the basis of disclosure made in the application.
To examine the application containing the invention under the provisions of the Patents Act 1970 (as amended).
To conduct search through patent and non-patent literature of earlier publications, technical literature through database or otherwise including online databases of India and foreign patent specifications to make sure that the invention is novel.
To read and understand a patent application and comparing with the prior art to determine new and inventive technological contribution made in the invention disclosed in the patent application and its industrial application.
To prepare an examination report by analyzing the search results obtained. vii. To undertake all such tasks as may be assigned from time to time including the other tasks as may be required in future, as patents is an evolving field.
