Establishment:
Himachal Pradesh Board of School Education was established in 1969 as per the Himachal Pradesh Education Act No. 14 in 1968. Initially it had its headquarters in Shimla which was shifted to Dharamshala in January 1983.
Affiliation:
There are around 10,000 schools affiliated with the Himachal Pradesh Board of School Education and 1650 of these schools have been set up as center for the board.
Who manages it?
Himachal Pradesh Board of School Education is headed by the Chairman appointed by State Government. In his assistance, Director of Education of Himachal Pradesh and The Director of Primary Education of Himachal Pradesh are also appointed by The Government under the Act. The staff of 438 people is recruited to help in smooth running of the board with 46,820 teachers in all schools affiliated to it.
How it imparts education to its students?
Himachal Pradesh Board of School Education conducts its board exam for classes 10th and 12th for the following courses J.B.T, P.V.T.C and T.T.C. Around 5 Lakh students appears every year. Himachal Pradesh became the first state of India where it is mandatory for each and every child to avail elementary education. Students of Himachal Pradesh Board lay equal emphasis on all the core subjects like Hindi, English, Science, Social Science, Mathematics and Information Technology. There are about 10, 05,942 students enrolled in all the schools affiliated to Himachal Pradesh Board of School Education.
How and when are exams conducted?
These exams are conducted every year in the month of March.
A new session starts in the beginning of April and the results for the exams are declared in the month of June.
Is Sarva shiksha abhiyaan its part?
Himachal Pradesh Board of School Education incorporates Sarva Shiskha Abhiyaan and it enforces free and compulsory education to the children of the age-group between 6 to 14 years. It has been highly appreciated by State Government of Himachal Pradesh because of its continuous endeavors for its goals of universal reach and retention of education, bridging of the gender and social gaps. It has been incorporated in major objectives of Himachal Pradesh board of school education. It has achieved a retention percentage of 97.7 % of students who move from primary to upper primary classes.
Benefits and objectives of Himachal Pradesh board of school education
It also provides mid-day meals in all schools under the mid-day meal scheme to increase the enrollment, attendance and retention of children of primary schools. It is expected that around 530016 students of class 1st to 5th and 39,229 students of class 6th and 7th have been benefitted with this scheme already.
Providing teachers with motivation and will to enhance the quality of education is one of the primary objectives of Himachal Pradesh Board of School Education. Due recognition and awards are provided to the teachers for their dedication and outstanding efforts in teaching and their academic growth and development are also taken into thorough consideration.
Achievements and future perspectives
Due to the efforts of Himachal Pradesh Board of School Education the literacy rate in the state of Himachal Pradesh is one of the highest among all the states of India being 83.8% and aims to achieve 100% literacy rate in coming years. They have also started a special scheme in which schools which achieves 100% results will be considered for special benefits and the teachers along with the principal of the school will be awarded. They have also implemented school safety projects to alert the children and the school community so that they can prepare for disasters and take required safety measures.
