The history of the Government of India Presses dates way back to the British Era as Press to the Private Secretary to the Viceroy. The Directorate of Printing had six printing Presses in pre-independence period. With the manifold increase in Government activities, since it became difficult to cope with the printing needs of the Government of India, the number of printing presses were increased all over the country.
Today, the Directorate of Printing has 16 Government of India Presses including three Text Book Presses set up with the gifted machinery / equipment of the then Federal Republic of Germany (FRG). It is basically a service Department running on “No Profit No Loss” basis and is dependent largely on jobs from various Ministries / Departments of the Government.
With the recent Notification from the Government of India Press, Koratty, Kerala, there is an announcement for induction of various posts with the prescribed qualifications and experience in Group “C” posts by Direct Recruitment as per extant Recruitment Rules. These are temporary posts and are likely to become permanent.

Pay Scale Provisions:
- Post No.1: The selected applicants will be eligible for an initial Pay Scale in PB-II with Rs.9300 – Rs.34800 with grade pay of Rs. 4600 along with other perks and remunerations
- Post No.12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 20 & 21: The selected applicants will be eligible for an initial Pay Scale in PB-II with Rs.9300 – Rs.34800 with grade pay of Rs. 4200 along with other perks and remunerations
- Post No.2, 4, 5, 7, 9, 10, 11, 19, 23 & 24: The selected applicants will be eligible for an initial Pay Scale in PB-I with Rs.5200 – Rs.20200 with grade pay of Rs. 1900 along with other perks and remunerations
- Post No.3: The selected applicants will be eligible for an initial Pay Scale in PB-I with Rs.5200 – Rs.20200 with grade pay of Rs.1800 along with other perks and remunerations
- Post No.6, 8, 17, 18, 22 & 25: The selected applicants will be eligible for an initial Pay Scale in PB-I with Rs.5200 – Rs.20200 with grade pay of Rs.2400 along with other perks and remunerations
Academic Eligibility Norms:
- Nurse: The applicants should have matriculation with ‘A’ Grade Certificate in Nursing or Midwifery from a recognized Institution

- Canteen Clerk: 12th Standard with a typing speed of 35 w.p.m. in English or 30 w.p.m. in Hindi on Computer (35 w.p.m. and 30 w.p.m. correspond to 10500 Key Depression per Hour or 9000 Key Depression per Hour on an average of 5 key Depressions for each word)
- Canteen Attendant: The applicants should have matriculation or equivalent
- Assistant Binder: Matriculation (10th Class) pass with Certificate of successful completion of Apprenticeship or Certificate of successful completion of vocational course at +2 level of Printing Technology.
- Copy Holder: Graduation from recognized University with Knowledge of English and Hindi and one of the regional languages in which printing is done. Must have Two years experience in proof reading from Press or institution of repute
- Mechanic (Ptg. & Bdg): Diploma in Mechanical or Electrical or Electronics Engineering with Two years experience of maintenance/repairing or printing equipments.
- Asstt. Mechanic (Ptg. & Bdg): Diploma in Mechanical or Electrical or Electronics Engineering with One year’s experience of maintenance/repairing or printing equipments. Must have ability to read the name of spare parts of machine used in printing industry
- Electrician: Diploma in Electrical or Electronics, Electrical Supervisory Certificate of Competency. Must have Two years experience of running/maintenance of high tension, and low tension electrical equipments.
- Wireman: Diploma in Electrical or Electronics, Electrical Workman’s Permit. One year experience in the same line.
- Welder: Matriculation with ITI in concerned trade and must have 3 years experience in relevant trade.
- Carpenter: Matriculation with ITI in concerned trade and must have 3 years experience in relevant trade.
- Senior Artist: Degree in Fine/Commercial Arts/Graphic Design with Two years experience in Commercial Designing, Graphic Designing and Layout making OR, Diploma in Fine/Commercial Arts with 3 yrs experience in Commercial Designing, Graphic Designing and Layout making. Must have working knowledge of English, Hindi and at least any one of the regional languages.
- Junior Artist: Degree in Fine/Commercial Arts/Graphic Design with One years experience in Commercial Designing, Graphic Designing and Layout making OR, Diploma in Fine/Commercial Arts with 2 years experience in Commercial Designing, Graphic Designing and Layout making. Must have working knowledge of English, Hindi and at least any one of the regional languages.
- Artist Retoucher: Degree in Printing Technology with 2 years experience or Diploma in Printing Technology with 3 years of experience.
- Assistant Artist Retoucher: Degree in Printing Technology with 1 year experience or Diploma in Printing Technology with 2 years of experience
- Cameraman: Diploma in Printing Technology with Three years experience in operation of Process Camera
- Dark Room Assistant: Diploma in Printing Technology with Two years experience in operation of Process Camera
- Plate Maker (Offset): Matriculation with Diploma in Printing Technology (Offset) or Certificate of Apprenticeship
- Assistant Plate Maker (Offset): Matriculation with Certificate in Offset Plate making and with 3 years experience in the trade or Certificate of Apprenticeship with 5 years of experience
- DTP operator: Diploma in Printing Technology with three years of experience in Working on Computers. Must have Hindi & English typing knowledge
- Offset Machine Man: Diploma in Printing Technology (Offset) with Five years working experience on Offset Machine doing single and multi color work.
- Offset Machine Assistant: Diploma in Printing Technology (Offset) with Three years working experience on Offset Machine doing single and multi color work OR, 10+2 with Certificate of Apprenticeship with concerned trade and 5 years of experience.
- Offset Machine Attendant: Matriculation with Certificate of Apprenticeship in the trade of Offset Printing, Plate Making and 3 years of experience.
- Attendant (Offset): Matriculation with Certificate of Apprenticeship in the trade of Offset Printing, Plate Making and 3 years of experience.
- Resograph Operator: Diploma in Printing Technology (Offset) with Three years working experience in the similar sector
