The Customs, Excise and Service Tax Appellate Tribunal (CESTAT) was formerly known as Customs, Excise & Gold (Control) Appellate Tribunal (in short CEGAT), was constituted during the year 1982. During this period procedure for dealing with various aspects of the Tribunal’s work have been evolved. These are partly based on the procedures adopted by the Income-tax Appellate Tribunal, partly on those of the High Court, and partly based on this Tribunal’s own needs and experiences.

The CESTAT has brought out a comprehensive Manual, which contains a number of office orders prescribing procedures governing, filing and hearing of appeals, which have been issued from time to time. CESTAT was created to provide an independent forum to hear the appeals against orders and decisions passed by the Commissioners of Customs and Excise relating to Service Tax.

With the recent announcement from CESTAT, it intend to invite candidature from the existing employees of the State and Central government, to join on deputation on various positions. Candidates who fulfill the requisite qualifications and age etc. for these posts, can apply to CESTAT, to join this workforce for an penultimate exposure. Those who have already applied against the advertisement published during 6-12 April 2013 in the Employment News, need not apply again.

NOTE: Number of vacancies may be differed during actual engagement

Pay provisions:

  • Assistant Registrar: The candidates joining on this cadre will receive a remuneration in the scale of Rs.15600-Rs.39100 with Grade Pay of Rs.5400 in Pay Band-III
  • Sr. Private Secretary: The candidates joining on this cadre will receive a remuneration in the scale of Rs.9300-Rs.34800 with Grade Pay of Rs.4600 in Pay Band-II
  • Technical Officer: The candidates joining on this cadre will receive a remuneration in the scale of Rs.9300-Rs.34800 with Grade Pay of Rs.4600 in Pay Band-II
  • Court Master: The candidates joining on this cadre will receive a remuneration in the scale of Rs.9300-Rs.34800 with Grade Pay of Rs.4200 in Pay Band-II
  • Library Information Assistant: The candidates joining on this cadre will receive a remuneration in the scale of Rs.9300-Rs.34800 with Grade Pay of Rs.4200 in Pay Band-II
  • Stenographer Gr-II (English): The candidates joining on this cadre will receive a remuneration in the scale of Rs.9300-Rs.34800 with Grade Pay of Rs.4200 in Pay Band-II
  • Stenographer Gr-III (English): The candidates joining on this cadre will receive a remuneration in the scale of Rs.5200-Rs.20200 with Grade Pay of Rs.2400 in Pay Band-I
  • Upper Division Clerk: The candidates joining on this cadre will receive a remuneration in the scale of Rs.5200-Rs.20200 with Grade Pay of Rs.2400 in Pay Band-I
  • Lower Division Clerk: The candidates joining on this cadre will receive a remuneration in the scale of Rs.5200-Rs.20200 with Grade Pay of Rs.1900 in Pay Band-I
  • Multi-Tasking Staff (Draftry/ Jamadar/ Chowkidar/ Peon/ Safaiwala): The candidates joining on this cadre will receive a remuneration in the scale of Rs.5200-Rs.20200 with Grade Pay of Rs.1800 in Pay Band-I
  • Apart from the salary, the selected candidates will be entitled to receive allowances and perks as per the central government regulations

Essential Criteria for Selection:

  • Assistant Registrar: The candidates must have worked on an analogous cadre with the Central/ State Government with the same Pay Band and should hold a Degree of Law. They must have at least 3 years of experience in Administrative/ Legal Matters preferably in Custom & Excise matters.
  • Section Officer: The candidates must have worked on an analogous cadre with the Central Government with the same Pay Band and Grade Pay of Rs.4200. They must have at least 8 years of experience in the parent cadre/ department.
  • Technical Officer: The candidates must have worked as a Superintendent of Central Excise or Appraiser of Customs Or, Inspector of Central excise or Examiner of Customs department with an experience in regular service for 8 years.
  • Court Master: The candidates must have worked on the positions of Inspector of Central Excise/ Preventive Officer/ Examiner/ Deputy Office-Superintendent with 5 years of regular service in respective grades and as an Assistant in CSS/ Non-CSS preferably in Courts/ Tribunals with at least 5 years of regular appointment.
  • Library Information Assistant: The candidates must have worked as a regular employee of Central Government with a Degree of Library Science on an analogous post. He should have at least 5 or 13 years of experience with various grades of pre-revised pays.
  • Stenographer Gr-II (English): The candidates must have worked as a regular employee of Central Government on an analogous post. He/ She should have at least 5 years of regular service with Rs.4000-Rs.6000 pre-revised scale and should have at least 100 wpm Stenography speed in English.
  • Stenographer Gr-III (English): The candidates must have worked as a regular employee of Central Government on an analogous post.
  • Upper Division Clerk: The candidates must have worked as a regular employee of Central Government on an analogous post or as an LDC with at least 5 years of regular service.
  • Lower Division Clerk: The candidates must have worked as a regular employee of Central Government on an analogous post.
  • Multi-Tasking Staff (Draftry/ Jamadar/ Chowkidar/ Peon/ Safaiwala): The candidates must have worked as a regular employee of Central Government on an analogous post

Age Requirement:

  • Under no circumstances the candidates should have crossed 56 years of age as on closing date of receipt of application.

Selection Procedure:

  • The selection will be dome through the guidelines of CESTAT recruitment norms on Deputation.
