Calcutta High Court is the oldest High Court in the country and was established on the first day of July 1862 in Fort William as High Court of Judicature. The British Government promulgated the High Court’s Act 1861 at that time. Despite the change of name of the city of Calcutta in 2001 to Kolkata, the court still remains Calcutta High Court since it is an institution.
With the recent announcement from the Calcutta High Court, there is an opportunity for aspirants to frame a career as English Stenographer, Clerk-Typist and Lower Division Clerks in the District Court of Birbhum in West Bangal. NOTE: The appointment will be purely on temporary basis till 31-12-2014 and likely to be made permanent for all category of posts.
Pay Scale and Remunerations:
- English Stenographer (Group-B): The selected candidates will be eligible for remuneration in the scale of PB-3 in the range of Rs.7100-Rs.37600 and a Grade Pay of Rs.3700 per month with other allowances as applicable.
- Lower Division Clerk (Gr.-C): The selected candidates will be eligible for remuneration in the scale of PB-2 in the range of Rs.5400-Rs.25200 and a Grade Pay of Rs.2600 per month with other allowances as applicable.
- English Typist-Copyist (Gr.-C): The selected candidates will be eligible for remuneration in the scale of PB-2 in the range of Rs.5400-Rs.25200 and a Grade Pay of Rs.2600 per month with other allowances as applicable.
- Process Server (Summon Bailiff): The selected candidates will be eligible for remuneration in the scale of PB-2 in the range of Rs.5400-Rs.25200 and a Grade Pay of Rs.2300 per month with other allowances as applicable.
- Gr.D (Peon/Farash/ Night Guard): The selected candidates will be eligible for remuneration in the scale of PB-1 in the range of Rs.4900-Rs.16200 and a Grade Pay of Rs.1700 per month with other allowances as applicable.
Academics:
- English Stenographer (Group-B): The candidates should have passed Madhyamic or equivalent examination from a recognized Board with a Certificate of Computer Training. They must have a minimum shorthand speed of 80 words per minute in English and English-Typing speed of 30 words per minute on a Typewriter.
- Lower Division Clerk (Gr.-C): The candidates should have passed Madhyamic or equivalent examination from a recognized Board with a Certificate of Computer Training. They must have a satisfying speed of Computer Typing.
- English Typist-Copyist (Gr.-C): The candidates should have passed Madhyamic or equivalent examination from a recognized Board with a Certificate of Computer Training. They must have a minimum English-Typing speed of 30 words per minute on a Computer.
- Process Server (Summon Bailiff): The candidates should have passed VIII standard or equivalent examination from a recognized Board.
- Gr.D (Peon/Farash/ Night Guard): The candidates should have passed VIII standard or equivalent examination from a recognized Board.
Age Requirement:
- Minimum age of 18 years as on 01-Jan-2014
- Maximum age limit is set at 40 years for these posts
- However, there will be relaxation in upper age limit as per the rules of the state.
Selection Procedure:

- For the posts of Group-B and Group-C: Rs.200 only
- For the posts of Group-D: Rs.100
